“Biloxi Blues” by Neil Simon is a coming-of-age comedy-drama set during World War II. It is the second installment of Simon’s semi-autobiographical Eugene Trilogy, following “Brighton Beach Memoirs” and preceding “Broadway Bound.” The play focuses on teenager Eugene Morris Jerome, who serves as both the narrator and central character.
The story takes place in 1943 at an Army boot camp in Biloxi, Mississippi, where Eugene is undergoing basic training. Through a series of humorous and sometimes serious episodes, Eugene records his experiences in a diary, offering insight into military life and his own personal growth.
