Discover the Winter Magic at Conneaut Lake’s Annual Ice House Festival

Family-friendly, Fun and Amusement, Stories

Each winter, Crawford County becomes a destination for those seeking a unique and engaging experience at Conneaut Lake’s Ice House Festival. This event is not just a local tradition; it’s a showcase of the area’s rich history, artistic talent, and community spirit.

Honoring a Rich Heritage

The Ice House Festival is a tribute to Conneaut Lake’s historic ice harvesting industry, an integral part of our local history. The industry began in 1880 at Conneaut Lake on the southeastern shore of the lake. The Conneaut Lake Ice Company built large wooden ice houses for storing, packing, and shipping ice. In the winter, the ice harvesting industry employed some 200 men and transported 100,000 tons of ice by railroad from Conneaut Lake.

This tradition, which once thrived on the frozen waters of the lake, is brought to life through the festival’s activities and displays, connecting us to our past while celebrating the present.

Spectacular Ice Sculptures and MoreĀ

The highlight of the festival is undoubtedly the stunning ice sculptures that adorn Ice House Park. Crafted by talented artists, these sculptures are a testament to creativity and craftsmanship. But the festival offers more than just visual delights. It’s a hub of activity with live music, artisan vendors, and engaging activities for all ages.

A unique feature of the festival is the “Trees of Light” cruises on Conneaut Lake. These cruises offer a magical journey across the lake, illuminated by beautifully decorated trees that reflect off the icy waters, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. It’s an unforgettable experience that combines the beauty of nature with festive cheer. Guests can enjoy the serene beauty of Conneaut Lake while sipping on hot cocoa, making it a perfect activity for families, couples, and individuals alike.
