Hunting
The Season has it’s Spot
Here in Crawford County
Crawford County is a fabulous destination for most all
outdoor activities including water sports like fishing and water
skiing, agricultural fairs, tent, cottage and cabin camping,
etc.……. but the biggest draw may be hunting. The unique
habitat of farm fields, forest, hills, and wetlands creates the
perfect place for both wild game and hunters. Big game hunting
for Whitetail Deer and Turkey are extremely popular for locals
and visitors alike. With 18 PA State Game Lands, State Parks,
the Erie Wildlife Refuge, private hunting reserves and many
conservation protected properties, tens of thousands of acres are
open to hunters and all of them are home to deer and turkey.
Crawford County is consistently near the top in the statewide
deer harvest count each year. The bear population is also
growing which will create more opportunity down the road.
Waterfowl hunting is extremely popular in places like
the Conneaut Marsh and in many areas near Pymatuning Lake,
harvesting thousands of multiple species of ducks and the
popular Canadian geese.
Small Game hunting for rabbit and squirrel is huge in
all parts of Crawford County and the beautiful Ringneck
Pheasant is a coveted upland game bird with 8300 birds stocked
by the PA Game Commission, the largest county number in
Northwest PA. For those without a hunting dog, there are
wonderful opportunities for hunting upland birds at places like:
Chase's Flying Frenzy, the Knapp Farm and Scattergun Reserve
where beginners or experienced hunters alike can get out for the
extended September through April season without the need for a
hunting license! So visit Crawford County and bring your
outdoor gear!
