Pattern and color are two of the basic elements in art that are part of our visual perception of the world. Color is a constant source of inspiration, and induces the wides range of emotions in the maker and the viewer. Even a lack of color evokes a response. Pattern is a repetition of an element (or elements) tat we can recognize, and can be color, line, shape, material, texture, etc. Patterns can vary in rhythm, direction, and value. They can have a purpose or meaning, or can simply exist as decoration. Some patterns are simply art of the process, like woven textiles or hammered metal.

Molly House, a thesis exhibition for painter Kyle Reidmiller from Edinboro college will hang from April 5th-April 27th.  Opening Reception is on April 5th from 7:00-9:00 in the Heeschen Gallery upstairs at the Market House. The show encompasses painted and drawn works produced during Reidmiller’s tenure in the Edinboro  University of Pennsylvania’s Master of Fine Arts Program and co-monitor of the university’s open studio for figure artists including nudes.  The Name of the show derives itself from historic queer terminology for a meeting place. The paintings featured in the show reflect Reidmiller’s ongoing research into gender performance and a small series of drawings will hang that references the gay male community. Throw in a sort tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand….and his name is Shrek.
